Recorded by H.H. Bancroft. Describes his overland journey to Oregon in 1847 via Fort Bridger; service in the Cayuse War; Indian difficulties en route to California in 1848; experiences on the Feather, American, and Yuba river mines; Indian fighting. Pasted to last page is a memorandum of 1885, listing names and birthdates of Ross's children.

Ezekial Thatcher was clerk of the Parkville School District, Shasta County, Calif. He emigrated to California from Pennsylvania in 1850 and helped establish the first school district in the Parkville area. He is descended from the Thatchers of Uffington, England, the same family as Denis Thatcher, husband of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. From the description of H.H.
